Green Hiker campaign is the name of a new compaign by World Wide Fund for Nature-India (WWF-India) launched on June 04, 2010 in New Delhi. The idea is to encourage the tour operators to adopt better practices for disposal of waste in the Himalayas and protect the fragile ecosystem. the compaign will cover the Jammu and Kashmir, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh and Arunachal Pradesh, aims to reach out to tour operators and tourists and encourage them to adopt responsible practices towards reducing the impact of tourism on the fragile ecosystem of the Himalayas. Arjun Vajpai, 16, the youngest Indian to conquer Mount Everest has also joined the compaign.
The compaign involves animation films on responsible tourism to be screened at airports, hotels, coffee houses, book shops and restaurants and distribution of posters, bookmarks and post cards. (Indian Express)

The Cape Town Conference was organized by the Responsible Tourism Partnership and Western Cape Tourism as a side event preceding the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg in 2002. It was attended by 280 delegates from 20 countries. The Responsible Tourism has following characteristics in Tourism Business:
- To minimize negative economic, environmental, and social impacts
- To generate greater economic benefits for local people and enhance the well-being of host communities, improves working conditions and access to the industry
- To involve local people in decisions that affects their lives and life chances
- To make positive contributions to the conservation of natural and cultural heritage, to the maintenance of the world’s diversity
- To provide more enjoyable experiences for tourists through more meaningful connections with local people, and a greater understanding of local cultural, social and environmental issues
- To provide access for physically challenged people
